PRB has prepared a series of analyses of population change in the 13-state Appalachian region, using data from the 1990 and 2000 Censuses, under a contract with the Appalachian Regional Commission. These reports deal with growth and age distribution of the population, changes in family structure, migration into and out of the region, incomes and poverty, the educational attainment of the workforce, and other topics vital to the future well-being of the people of the region.
With new funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission, PRB is currently working on a project to use decennial census data from 1960 through 2000 to analyze factors behind long-term social and economic change in the Appalachian region.
