The first Hewlett/PRB Research Program on Population, Reproductive Health, and Economic Development Research Proposal Writing Workshop for New Scientists was held in Arusha, Tanzania, on December 7-8, 2007. The purpose of the workshop was to provide new scholars with the skills and hands-on experience to prepare high-quality research proposals for obtaining research funding from a variety of funding sources. It was also an opportunity for meeting and networking with other new scholars who have interests in population, reproductive health, and economic development in Africa. The facilitator was Aron Primack, M.D., MPH, program director of The Fogarty International Center, U.S. National Institutes of Health.
