PRB is assisting the University of Aberdeen, UK, in disseminating the results of a four-year, global research project on maternal health, Immpact, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the U.K Department for International Development, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the European Union. The research initiative seeks to improve maternal health and survival in developing countries by providing evidence of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of safe motherhood strategies and of the implications for equity and sustainability.
Immpact’s research activities, conducted through partnerships in Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Indonesia, have helped produce methods and strengthen capacity for robust evaluation of maternal health programs. The research and evaluation activities aim to influence policy decisions affecting the health of women and families. In support of this aim, PRB conducted a workshop in 2006 on the development of policy messages and a strategy for communicating with policymakers, and is preparing a policy brief, fact sheets, and web articles for international dissemination in 2007.
