(November 2016) Begun in 1991, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, commemorated around the world with activities from November 25—International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—through December 10—International Human Rights Day—symbolically linking violence against women and human rights, thus emphasizing that such violence is a human rights violation.
The theme of the campaign this year is “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All.”
This year, the Interagency Gender Working Group (IGWG) has created an infographic on “Intimate Partner Violence and Family Planning: Intersections and Opportunities for Action.” Produced by FHI360 and PRB, cochairs of the IGWG Gender-Based Violence Task Force, and funded by USAID, the infographic provides relevant definitions of intimate partner violence, its global prevalence, impact on reproductive health, and suggested necessary steps to address it.
During this period, the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) will highlight data and related materials on gender violence. For example:
