Training Materials

Through regional workshops and country-level training, PRB has trained professionals from developing countries to design and implement policy communication strategies. Training sessions are designed to help participants manage information, identify the policy and program implications of data, create a dissemination strategy, and develop written and oral presentation skills for communicating effectively with policy audiences. A sampling of materials previously used in training activities is presented below.

Fundamentals of the Policy Process: Creating a Window of Opportunity for Change

This training session was prepared for the Averting Maternal Death and Disability Conference in Malaysia in October 2003. The session provides an overview of the policy process enabling participants to increase the use of research results with the goal of improving policies and programs.

Accessing Health Information Through the Internet

This training session was prepared for the East Asia Regional Workshop on Managing Information for Effective Health Programs held in Vietnam in December 2003. The session provides an introduction to internet searching and population and health resources on the internet.

Guidelines for Effective Data Presentations

For information on data presentations, please refer to the guide Connecting People to Useful Information: Guidelines for Effective Data Presentations. The guide was prepared by the Dissemination Working Group of the MEASURE Program, and has been used in various training activities. The guide provides practical advice and examples in the art of presenting data to nonspecialist audiences. It contains two appendices with sample slides and reference material for preparing presentations using PowerPoint software. The chapters listed below focus on developing and delivering oral presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint.
