(August 2012) "Nutrition on the Rise," a 25-minute multimedia presentation produced under the RENEW (Reenergizing Nutrition—Expanding Worldwide) Project, is designed for global audiences to raise the visibility of malnutrition and its costs, consequences, and solutions. Using state-of- the-art technologies, including the groundbreaking Trendalyzer (bubble graph) software, the presentation features evidence on the individual, health, and economic benefits of reducing malnutrition, and presents nutrition investments as cost-effective, high-yield interventions. The presentation explores how the cycle of malnutrition is perpetuated generation after generation, and includes a dynamic animated segment on the 1,000-day window of opportunity—the critical period in a child's life from conception to 24 months—when nutrition can have a lifelong impact on an individual's physical and mental development.
As an advocacy tool, the presentation is ideal for promoting policy dialogue and strengthening support for nutrition as a priority issue on international and national policy agendas. It can be used by advocates globally to reinforce ongoing initiatives, add value to local policy advocacy activities, and support program and policy improvements. Target audiences for the presentation include global and country partners, high-level government policymakers, civic and business leaders, program officials, journalists, community leaders, and other influentials.
"Nutrition on the Rise" is available in three formats—with a narrated voiceover or as a slide presentation for either a PC or a Mac computer. The presentation can be streamed or downloaded from the PRB website or you can request a CD-ROM. Additional materials include a six-page handout and a list of references for each data slide. A presentation guide is also available, which provides tips to presenters and facilitators to effectively use the presentation.
The purpose of the RENEW Project is to increase commitment and resources toward the alleviation of malnutrition in mothers and children (0-to-24 months) using evidence-based multimedia presentations as an advocacy tool. RENEW is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. PRB recently received an expanded grant for RENEW through October 2014.
