(December 2010) PRB staff wrote a handbook for the U.S. Census Bureau to help people understand key opportunities and challenges of the American Community Survey and how to use the data. The handbook is written for a general audience but includes a detailed technical appendix for more advanced users. We conclude with several case studies providing concrete examples of how ACS data can be used to answer real-life questions.
We also contributed to the Congressional Quarterly’s new encyclopedia entry on the American Community Survey. This “what you need to know” reference guide offers key context and analysis on how the new ACS data has become the primary U.S. government source of detailed demographic data. The reference is available online at http://acsguide.cqpress.com.
