(October 2003) The Asia/Pacific region is home to roughly 60 percent of the world’s people. Its population growth rate, 1.3 percent, is the lowest in developing country regions and closely approximates the world average of 1.2 percent. Significant progress has been made in most parts of the region, particularly in promoting reproductive health, reducing infant mortality, lowering crude birth and death rates, and markedly increasing life expectancy. These UNFPA/PRB country profiles show the wide range of development issues in this region.
