To support Malawi’s 2012 pledge to improve the sexual and reproductive health of its young people, PRB’s IDEA project prepared a 2014 Malawi Youth Data Sheet (MYDS), an MYDS discussion guide, and accompanying pocket fact sheet in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development and the Ministry of Youth and Sport in consultation with the National Youth Council and the National Statistics Office.

The MYDS and pocket fact sheet provide reliable health and population data for youth ages 15 to 24 according to household wealth, residence type, and regional zones—collected for the Malawi 2010 Demographic and Health Survey.

The discussion guide can assist educators, journalists, and policymakers in how to interpret and use the data from the MYDS and its accompanying pocket fact sheet, in a classroom setting, for the context of a news piece, or for a policy audience.

Using data about Malawi’s youth informs actions to improve the health and well-being of young people and to safeguard their future.
