(November 2014) PRB is pleased to announce funding from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation for “Realizing a Demographic Dividend—Ensuring Regional and National Commitment and Action.” In collaboration with regional and in-country partners, the project will enhance knowledge, capacity, and coordination on the demographic dividend regionally and in three priority countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The demographic dividend is the accelerated economic growth that may result from a decline in a country’s mortality and fertility and the subsequent change in the age structure of the population.

Building on current work, PRB will work with partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, and Senegal to create and disseminate country-specific materials on the demographic dividend to inspire action within each country. PRB will convene groups to enhance regional information sharing and coordination of activities. A major planned activity is a new website on the demographic dividend, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population & Reproductive Health.
