Rising obesity rates are a public health concern in the United States and around the world.

Prolonged obesity has implications for health at older ages, and these health effects may increase the costs of health care for individuals and governments

The Behavioral and Social Research Program at the National Institute on Aging supports research on the health consequences of obesity and the factors associated with becoming obese. By better understanding the causes and consequences of obesity, more effective and cost-efficient interventions may be identified. This newsletter discusses research funded by the U.S. National Institute on Aging and other recent research on obesity in the older population.
