Uzma Syed and Jeremy Shiffman: Raising Political Will for Neonatal Health in Bangladesh

In this interview, Dr. Uzma Syed, newborn health adviser for Save the Children; and Jeremy Shiffman, professor of Public Administration and Policy at American University, spoke to PRB about the effort to increase political priority for neonatal health in Bangladesh. Syed worked extensively in the region with political officials, organizations, and community groups to lower infant mortality rates and shares the approaches she used in her work. Shiffman is co-author of the paper, “Generating Political Priority for Neonatal Mortality Reduction in Bangladesh,” and analyzes how the issue became part of the national agenda, and what lessons can be learned for raising the profile of neglected health issues in other settings.
