Distilling Research for Non-Technical Audiences

PRB communicates complex data and information through user-friendly, state-of-the-art products and analyses that promote the use of evidence in decision-making.

We produce and distribute reports and other materials for non-technical audiences to provide government, business, and nonprofit decisionmakers with up-to-date scientific evidence to inform policy decisions and program design.

We work on a range of topics and through several projects to make research and data accessible.

  • We summarize recent research supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health, highlighting its implications for individuals and society. PRB products include the Today’s Research on Aging series, feature articles, infographics, data visualizations, and interviews.
  • PRB serves as the Coordinating Center for the NICHD Population Dynamics Centers Research Infrastructure Program to improve the translation and dissemination of major findings from population dynamics research, and improve communication and cooperation across the Centers to enhance the productivity and scientific impact of the Centers and of population dynamics research overall. We translate and disseminate major peer-reviewed findings, methods, and perspectives from population dynamics research to other scientists and to non-technical audiences, including policymakers, program directors, practitioners, educators, journalists, and students.
  • Our training of researchers, research teams, and doctoral students builds their capacity to effectively communicate their findings to decisionmakers and effect positive change for policies, programs, and strategic investments. Throughout the training, we work with researchers to identify key decisionmakers, craft policy-relevant questions and designs, develop plans to keep decisionmakers engaged throughout the research process, craft compelling messages, and plan for dissemination. We also provide technical assistance and create compelling, accessible written and digital products to communicate key findings to global and national audiences.
